Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), is a state-of-the-art technology which is used as a non-invasive treatment to reduce pain and promote healing. Shockwave Therapy uses Acoustic Waves which carry energy to an affected area in the form of low or high energy waves. While it was originally introduced in 1982 to manage Urologic conditions such as Kidney stones, it also treated conditions such as Gall Stones and Erectile Dysfunction.
Today, it is also used to treat a different variety of conditions that cause both Chronic and Acute Pain involving Tendinopathies in both the Upper and Lower Extremities. Shockwave Therapy has been shown to break down calcification deposits found in soft tissue, bones, and bone spurs. Using Shockwave therapy helps increase an immune response while increasing blood circulation to the area promoting self-healing and quicker recovery times.
